Did we bum you out this month talking about memory loss and menopause? If so, I’d like to share one of my favorite quotes that always makes me feel better:
Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory. Albert Schweitzer
A little memory loss can be very helpful when striving to be happy. In fact, looking forward and not back is center to my happiness. Most likely it’s because my grandma drilled into me the benefits of not dwelling on the past. MOVE ON! That was one of her favorite phrases. Oh, how I miss that woman.
Thankfully, we are on the last day of “Memory March” and we can move on to uplifting things such as warmer weather. That said, even though it has been a little bit depressing to talk about the fact that many of us “permenapausals” will most likely have some memory issues. . .I like knowing that I’m not alone or going crazy. In fact, that is a big reason I enjoy writing for this blog. It makes me feel so much better that I’m understood.
We have also learned this month that it’s not all doom and gloom. There are things you can do to minimize memory loss, along with some great tips and tricks you can use to make things easier. Heck, this month I followed some of Heidi’s great memory-enhanced eating recommendations and deployed things like taking photos, better list making and brain exercises. Result? I have not had many issues on the memory side. I only lost my keys once! Sure, some of this helpful information might be all mental – but, I’ll take feeling good even it’s the result of more positive thinking.
Sometimes just looking something “straight in the eye” can make all of the difference. So, as we move through the rest of spring let’s REMEMBER what we learned this month. 🙂
And, bring on summer!! I don’t know about you, but we’ve had a wonderful, sunny and warm spring in Boise. Nothing clears the fog out of my mind better than fresh air and sun. I’ve definitely been getting my 10,000 steps in lately, which I enjoy because it gives me time to think and remember lots of things.
Bottom-line: There is hope. There is understanding. You are not coo-coo! So, move on!!
This cartoon gave me a little laugh. Hope it gives you a smile, too.
