Do you have dry skin, brittle hair, peeling nails? Then it might be time to check your oil. The oil in your panty, that is.
Bet you didn’t know that many of these symptoms can be reversed when you add high quality, unprocessed oils to your diet. This means you have to stop using refined oils like…
- Canola
- Safflower
- Sunflower
- Corn
- Soybean
- Hydrogenated fats that are found in processed foods like margarine.
Here’s why… refined oils are high in Omega 6 fatty acids which cause inflammation in the body and can lead to degenerative illness like heart disease, arthritis and many more. They are also devoid of healthy nutrients.
On the other hand, if you replace these refined oils/fats with:
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Unrefined Sesame Oil
- Flaxseed Oil
- Avocado and Walnut Oil
- Real Butter
- Virgin Coconut Oil
You’ll be adding fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, lecithin, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants like vitamin E that keep the oil from going rancid. These oils/fats have been used centuries. Not to forget, they TASTE GREAT, too.
Really, this is one of those simple changes we talk about. Its like one of those “stealth health” things you can do for you and your family and no one will notice the difference (in terms of taste).
But remember, heat and light damage most oils and over time, can cause oil to degrade and lose some of its nutrients. So store your oils in a cool, dark place and replace it if it smells bitter or “off.” Some oils — particularly polyunsaturated oils like flaxseed and walnut oil — may turn rancid faster than other oils. Store these oils in the refrigerator.
My favorite oils to use in salad dressings are walnut and avocado oil. Try my OUT OF THIS WORLD Walnut Citrus Dressing on your next salad.
Note: You can find many unrefined oils at natural food stores like Whole Foods or you can check out our “SOME OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS” STORE for a few oils that I use and you might have a hard time finding.
