Cooking quick, healthy and “menopause-friendly” is extra challenging for me on most (every single) day because of my schedule. I wish I could say I was one of those superhero moms who gets it all done, including putting a delicious, healthful meal on the table seven days a week. And, if you are one of those women who prepares a months worth of healthy meals on the weekend, freezes them and then serves everything up with a smile promptly at 5:15pm. . .then, I “hormonally hate” you. And, there is nothing scarier than being hormonally hated. Just FYI.
Actually, I am jealous. I know it’s possible to be more organized, but I just haven’t been able to figure it out. That’s why I have become a big fan of the Fresh 20 (www.thefresh20.com). It’s a busy woman’s salvation. Every week on Friday, I get two, five-day menus shipped to my inbox – one called “classic” that includes meat-based dishes and the other is a vegetarian menu for myself and my daughter. Not only are the menus included, but a weekly shopping list and the nutritional value of each recipe. Best of all, they are SIMPLE, taste delicious, focus on fresh ingredients and “Heidi approved.” And, often the classic and the vegetarian menus overlap – cutting down on me having to serve as a short-order cook.
I have tried several other subscription menu services, but this is hands-down the best. Did I mention that the recipes are SIMPLE? The additional benefit is that they help me focus on eating more vegetables. I know for a fact that when I eat a plant-heavy diet, my hormones are (mostly) in check. And, I’m not one to eat carrot and celery sticks five days in a row. The Fresh 20 does an amazing job of spicing things up in the vegetable bowl, so I never get bored. I also try combinations of vegetables that I wouldn’t have dreamed of combining.
Over the course of time, I will be featuring a number of Fresh 20 recipes. Note that I often modify them a tad based on my taste and often to simplify even more (i.e. I’m not grating no cheese!) And, we all know that sometimes a little chocolate on top is necessary on certain days of the month.
I’ll leave it up to you to go to the Fresh 20 site and check out their very reasonable subscription costs. And, please keep in mind that neither myself or BodyofEve.com is receiving anything to plug the site and menu services. I’m just a big fan. Oh! And, did happen to I mention that the menus are SIMPLE. So, go and get some Fresh 20. Although, please don’t write and tell me how you froze a month’s worth of recipes and served them up at 5:15pm each night with a smile. That will just piss me off.
Enjoy!!
