Two truths…
Change is hard.
Change is good.
Last weekend, Eric and I moved to a new home after raising our family in our last home for 17 years. It was time to downsize– the yard, mortgage and the space. This change is good.
However, the move happened, right in the middle of my son, Jeffrey’s graduation from college. Oh, we knew about the graduation and had planned for it, but we hadn’t planned on the move date. When escrow closes, it closes. So here was my weekend… Pack. Move. Stop. Change. Drive 100 miles. Attend graduation. Party! Drive back 100 mi. Pack more. Move. Stop. Collapse! This change was good but HARD.
So while we watched our son transition from student life to adult life (translation: from our bank roll to his own and a new job) We rejoiced! We partied! This was good change! But we are also transitioning to a new life, new house and new neighborhood. This is hard.
But we need change. It brings a new rhythm to our life. Change brings new hope, adventures, memories and sometimes pain. The pain of change occurs when it is unexpected and unwanted—like a job loss or death in the family. But as always with change is personal growth. It pushes us to be better. To see life in a new way. Perhaps in a way we have not seen before.
This is why menopause or “the change” can be a powerful time in our life. Changing hormones bring new feelings, and often “open” blind spots in relationships. We may see life in a new way. I know I do. We feel our bodies changing and learn how the wrong choices can affect balance (i.e. junk food, lack of sleep, and stress). We feel the pulse of life very keenly.
Let’s embrace the change. Change is good.
And I had to share this most amazing thing about my new home. Check out this picture window from my living room! The Japanese maple tree in the corner makes this view of my backyard look like an oil painting.
A live painting that “changes” with the season.

Every time I’m with you I’m blessed by your knowledge and wisdom concerning this season of life. Sometimes it’s just advice on a small adjustment in diet or a helpful supplement. So grateful for your education and always current research. Can’t wait for your book! Congrats to you and Eric on your new home.
