Is your body shape changing? Fat racing its way from your hips straight to your tummy? If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering what the heck is going on?
My doctor told me to just accept the change, its biology after all, its natural. Um, sorry no. Yes, my body is changing but I don’t have to give up. I like feeling good about myself, having energy throughout the day and fitting into my jeans. And I know Eric, my husband, likes me to fit into them too! So the purpose of our May posts will be all about weight management. Yep, you can control the weight gain with some simple and easy lifestyle changes. The secret is knowing how to navigate and embrace the change that is occurring within us. Hormones aren’t fair…
Here’s the Unfair Truth:
As we get older our estrogen, progesterone and sex hormones begin to decline which causes the fat cells in our abdomen to kind of “ramp up” and grow. Let’s face it; you will never be the weight you were when you were 20. This is because Mother Nature says she doesn’t want you too. In fact, that new growing tummy has an important role and is now needed to produce estrogen.
What? You thought your ovaries did that? They used to do it but as they wind down, the fat stores in your middle region now become your estrogen factory. You got to get estrogen from somewhere right? We never stop making estrogen all together. So like a double edged sword, as estrogen drops, our fat cells grow and we get thicker around the middle.
Have you noticed…?
- Radical dieting doesn’t work anymore?
- Low carb and low fat diets don’t work either?
- Aerobic exercising without strength training just makes you hungry?
- You can’t drink like you used to without a hangover?
- Sex? Do I have to ask?
- Sleeping through the night is rare?
This is ALL due to declining hormone levels. You are not alone. There are natural ways to lose weight, feel great and balance your hormones. I will show you how.
All this month Steph and I will post on our own journey. Weight management isn’t easy and there isn’t one diet that fits all. But there is a way.
So grab a cup of tea and read some past posts I’ve already created to help you get started. I’m so glad you are here.
